Green Moss
Green Moss
I went for a wander in the woods yesterday and came across some amazing examples of brilliant green moss. I didn’t know that there were so many varieties. With the warm, damp weather it appears to be springing up everywhere, in the lawn, in pot-plant tubs, on walls, in paving slab cracks and most wonderfully within woodland settings. It is lovely to see the vibrant-green hue within the clearing of trees. often there will be mushrooms, or pine-cones nestled in amongst it. It can also make a good hiding place for little snails and frogs.
Countryside Info website gives a good explanation of what moss is and makes an interesting read. Apparently they are non-flowering plants with no roots.
There are over 10,000 species of moss worldwide.
Terraniums often use moss to create a little garden inside the house. I had a go myself yesterday, with some moss, pinecones and some little star lights. It looked like a little forest, and I was truly delighted with it. I just need to remember to keep spraying it with water. There are so many examples on Instagram of terraniums, some of which include succulents and mushrooms. They are really inspiring. They are also a great source to collect ideas from.
